Once he finds out he can't though, he's reduced to being cold and miserable and sticking by the edge of the forest near the school because he sees all these humans and does not want to interact with them, so obviously the best way to go about this is to wait until it's not so light outside and then go look for someplace warm. There are a few large buildings around the village that house many people in separate rooms, and they are difficult to miss. I would advise you to find one of them so you can, at the least, get warm on your own.
